One of the biggest stumbling blocks I see happening with many Entrepreneur’s that are struggling in their businesses is that they do not have the proper Mindset and aren’t setting their goals.   I can tell you from personal experience that your mindset is the biggest contributing factor in determining your success so we are going to discuss this subject in detail.

No matter which Millionaires you talk to, you will find that they all have this one thing in common no matter what business they are involved in, and that is, they set Clear, Lofty Goals and did whatever it took to reach the goals they set.  Believing is a powerful thing but before you can begin believing that you can reach a lofty goal, you have to set them.  If you never set them you are only going to have marginal success if any.

One of My Millionaire Mindset Stories

Before we get into the meat of the Millionaire Mindset I want to share a little story about how mindset can have a tremendous effect on your results.

In my working career as a welder / fitter I had decided that doing this kind of work was getting to hard on me physically, I had spent the past 10 years in this trade and it had taken it’s toll.  So I began to think about the other areas that I might like to pursue and ended up looking at engineering as a possible new career path.  The problem was that I couldn’t afford to go to school again and because I had a family to provide for I knew I wouldn’t be able to go to school full time and work full time on top of it.

Now I’m no different that anyone else but what I do have that seems to be different than a lot of other people is that I’m very stubborn and when I make up my mind to do something, I don’t take no for an answer.  This is key to one of the first things we will be discussing here with regards to Mindset and that is, BELIEF.   In order to overcome and to reap rewards from the things you want to pursue in life, you have to believe that you can receive/achieve it.  It is so vital to your success that we will be discussing it here at length.

There are Obstacles but the Goal is Set

Getting back to the story here…   So here I was, faced with understanding that I wouldn’t be able to work full time and also go to school to get a degree in Mechanical Engineering, so I started to think about how I could get my foot in the door some where that would lead me in that direction.  Once I had finalized that this was what I wanted to do, I began looking everywhere I could including the company I was currently working for, to see if I could start learning what I could about their engineering processes and also the tools that they used to do their engineering.

I managed to get a copy of their drafting program and began learning it in my spare time at home, as well as looking online at the tools the engineers were using at that time.  One of the biggest manufacturing organizations in that area at the time was The Boeing Company, which as you know, they build commercial and government aircraft, so I began to set my sites on getting an engineering type job with them.

OK, you’re probably thinking to yourself at this point that I must be out of my mind because here I am, no experience in engineering, no formal training, and I’m going to try and get a job at one of the largest aeronautical companies in the country?  Yes, that’s right!  When I look back on it now, it’s nothing short of amazing so let me back up a minute and describe to you quickly how it all turned out.

Once I began learning the drafting program that my current employer was using, I started asking a lot of questions to the guys in that engineering department and learned a lot, within just a matter of weeks, I was offered a job within their engineering department and to make a long story short, after about a year of working in that department, I was made the Supervisor for that department and was able to take some of their processes and improve them significantly.

One Door is Shut and Another Opens

A short time after getting the supervisor role, I was informed that the company was being sold to an organization that was in another state, so I put together my resume and began pursuing a position at The Boeing Company and in a few short weeks had an interview with the Manager for their Rack structures engineering department and accepted a position as a Lead Designer and got a significant raise in the process.

What is the Proper Mindset?

So what do I want you to take from all this?  In a nutshell, you should:

• Set Lofty Goals (So big that on the face of it, they seem impossible to reach)
• Plan how you’re going to accomplish your goals
• Take Action that leads you in the direction of your goals
• Get rid of the negative thoughts and instead Look for the Possibilities
• Believe You Can Achieve It and You Will
• Affirm Your Thoughts Out Loud (in other words, Talk About How You Are Going To Achieve It!)
• Expect The Results You Planned For

I have used these techniques throughout my life and this is just one of the examples I could give you, I have many many more.  Some of which are even more remarkable than this particular story.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a goal of getting a new job, or starting your own business, or reaching to get more traffic to your web site, it’s all the same, so sit down and nail down your goals on paper every single day and plan to succeed.  If you’ll follow these steps and don’t give up, YOU WILL SUCCEED!  It works every time I apply it and it will work for you as well.

Once you believe that you can achieve and receive, the rest is money in the bank and there isn’t anything that you can’t achieve if you can believe for it.

How Do I Develop This Kind of Mindset?

I do believe that some of us are better equipped to have the proper mindset due to the nature of our childhoods and how we are brought up but I also know that anyone and everyone can develop this kind of mindset with practice and by exercising our minds on a daily basis.  A positive mind is a happy mind and if you start to practice some of the things that we’ve talked about here and also use some of the references below, you will be well on your way to seeing all of your goals come to life.

Conclusion

After I worked for Boeing for about 3 years I decided I wanted to move onto software development and so I began training myself at home just like I did with the drafting and engineering field and as a result, I was interviewed by one of this countries largest engineering software developers and received a position with them as an engineer.   This move from being a design engineer with Boeing, yielded me getting a 25% salary raise on top of moving to a new field within engineering.

Keep in mind, here I was, working next to guys that spent 4+ years in college to get a degree in engineering, doing the same job they were, and I did not have a degree.  I was making the same salaries as the other engineers there despite the fact that I didn’t have formal schooling to do the job.

The entire reason I decided to tell you this story is because I hope it will inspire you, to show you that you don’t have to be super smart, or have a degree, or whatever it is that’s currently holding you back from whatever it is that you want.  Instead, look for the possibilities all around you, when you dream big and believe in yourself and the possibilities, doors will open to make a way, but you have to be reaching for those goals, and before that can happen, you must plan to reach them.

I’m no one special, I’m no smarter than you or anyone else, but what I do have is that I believe I can achieve anything that I want to in life and because of that, my mind finds ways to make it happen.  If I weren’t looking for these possibilities, I would miss the doors that open to make them a reality.  You simply miss the opportunities because you’re not looking for them and expecting them.

No matter what your background is, no matter where you are in life right now, changing your mindset is the one thing YOU DO CONTROL and it is where the battle is either won or lost, so I hope this will help give you some additional inspiration to not only reach your goals, but help you to see the awesome power we all have at our disposal.

The bottom line is if you believe you can move mountains, you can.  No matter how absolutely impossible something may seem on the face of it, begin to get your mind to believe by throwing away all of the excuses for why something can’t work and instead concentrate on why it can work.  The more you do this, the more your mind finds ways and avenues that show you how you can achieve what you want.  It never ceases to amaze me some of the miraculous ways doors open and things happen when you put yourself into this kind of position to believe.
